One of fourteen children of Riley and Amelia (Burker) Beebe. Was residing in Geneva, IL when he enlisted as a Sergeant in Company H, 15th Illinois Cavalry on August7, 1861. Promoted to Lieutenant on August 10, 1862. Promoted to Captain on February 13, 1863. Mustered out of Federal Service on August 31, 1864.

After the war he lived in Plano, IL; Anthony and Wichita, KS. Married Louise Sangster on October 17, 1869 in Kane County,IL. Was living in Wichita with his son, Hugh, when he died on December 14, 1910.
