John A.P. Barnett, 87, of 2927 Mayfield, Alton, formerly of Edwardsville, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday at the Villa Terrace nursing home there, where he had resided for two years.
Mr. Barnett, a retired farmer, is the last of nine children born to the late Alfred P. and Mary E. Kinder Barnett. He was born in Edwardsville June 6, 1871 and was educated in the local schools. He also attended the Presbyterian church.
The deceased had made his home in Alton the past 15 years. His wife, the former Essie G. Brokaw whom he married in 1903 at Litchfield, died in 1944. Six brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Edwin Niemeier, Mrs. Noble Tolley, Mrs. Edgar Nave and Mrs. James Farrow, all of Alton, and Mrs. Herman Ruoff of Andrews Air Force Base, Md., nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Morrow-Quinn Mortuary, 603 Henry street, Alton, where final rites will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Edwardsville.
