Soldier-- At 11:30 Sunday night Uncle Charley Backman passed peacefully away. He had been failing for years. Charles Backman was born in Mecklenburg Schwarin, Germany, May 26, 1832 and died July 19, 1914, aged 82 years, 1 month and 23 days. When about 22 years of age he came to America and resided in Indiana. On December 25, 1857, he was married to Miss Reka Nuzman. To this union six children were born, five of who Charles Jr., John and Frank, Mrs. Denny and Mrs. Camp, survive the father. Mrs. Backman died February 28, 1894. In 1865, Mr. and Mrs. Backman moved to Kansas and settled near Soldier... Early in life Mr. Backman united with the German Evangelical church, and later with the Methodist. Since the death of his companion, Charley has been a little unbalanced in mind and did some queer things. In the days before his affliction he was industrious and a good citzen. The funeral was held at his home in Soldier on Tuesday afternoon and his body placed by that of his wife. Charles Backman and family, of Holton; John Backman and family, of Manhatten; Frank Backman, of Omaha; F. M.
