Alanson J. Beebe, born in Freedom Township, Cattaraugus County NY, enlisted in the Iowa cavalry at age either 15 or 16. Just after the Civil War ended, he was kicked in the back by a mule while preparing to go on patrol in Iuka Springs TN. His back was severely damaged and he was mustered out and returned home and lived in Dunn County WI until he died of his military injuries. His father. Lathrop, was also a Civil War Veteran.
