His stone reads: Luke Walker Ordnance Sergeant in the U.S. Army, died at Fort Knox April 2, 1880. AE 59 years, 8 months. "May he rest in peace." He served 42 years.
The Stone says it all. He was the first keeper of the fort, and also the first to die in service at the Fort.
Sergeant Walker is buried next to his wife.
