Robert Dale Plumb -Bob to his friends - was born at Beloit, Wisconsin to Robert Dale, Sr. and Lucy (Lytle) Plumb. He married Lynda Abbott.
Bob graduated from the University of Wisconsin with degrees in speech and mathematics, and also did some post graduate work at Northeastern State and Oklahoma State universities. One of his proudest achievements was being a member of the cast of the first national champion FACT play, "Hallelujah Baby" in the summer of 1968.
Bob was a teacher for seven years in two stints at junior and senior high schools in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Oklahoma, including three years at Broken Arrow's Sequoyah Middle School.
During his career he directed more than 60 shows, and worked as an actor at more than 50 roles, including time at the Cherokee Nation's Tsa-La-Gi "Trail of Tears" drama in 1970.
He was a frequent guest director at Oklahoma community theatres and was elected president of the American Community Theatre Association earlier in 1981.
He was active in his local community education program and other civic endeavors.
Bob was the driving force behind the founding of the Community Playhouse of Broken Arrow in 1979 and many of the people who helped get it off the ground were former students of his from Sequoyah.
Tragically, Bob took his own life at the age of 43.
A memorial service was held at the Playhouse with about 200 in attendance. They shared memories of Bob and sang "Sabbath Prayer" from "Fiddler on the Roof," which Bob had directed there a few months prior to his death. A private service for the family followed the next day under the direction of Christian Funeral Home with internment at Park Grove Cemetery.
Survivors at the time of his passing included his wife, Lynda, his parents, a brother, Richard of Miami, Florida, a sister, Janice Veitch of Bowling Green, Ohio, and a niece, Robin Veitch.
