Funeral Services for Gretta J. Dugan have been scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, August
3, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home.

Gretta Janet Dugan was born April 18, 1934 in Mount Judea, Arkansas the daughter of Archie B. and Velma Mae (Pruitt) Cheatham. Gretta died Monday, July 30, 2012 at Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 78 years.

The former Miss Gretta Cheatham was a 1951 graduate of Broken Arrow High School where she was class salutatorian and co-editor of the yearbook. She received her Bachelors Degree in Vocational Home Economics and Journalism from Oklahoma State University in 1955, where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She taught for over 30 years at Broken Arrow High School and had also taught in Moultrie, Georgia and Sacramento, California. She was named Broken Arrow Teacher of the Year and also Tulsa County Teacher of the year in 1983. In 1984 she was the Great Teacher of the World sponsored by the Tulsa World. She was Educator of the Month in 1991 and was elected "Silver Haired Legislature" for five years. She was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Education Assoc., Broken Arrow Education Assoc., and National Education Assoc. She was Student Council Sponsor for two years. She was a member of Business and Professional Women's Club, where she wrote and edited the First Broken Arrow Newcomers Book, organized the volunteer groups and served as Vice President and President. She was cochairman of the Broken Arrow Bicentennial Celebration and served on many of the committees for the event. She was on the Board of Directors of the Broken Arrow Seniors for five years, also serving as President. She was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1942 where she was Sr. High School Sunday School Teacher, Church School Superintendent, Chancel Choir, Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, OK United Methodist Conference Camp, Governing Board and Counselor and Teacher at Summer Sr. High Camp. She was a member of Broken Arrow Historical Society, Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority for Women in Education, and South Tulsa County Retired Educators Association. She founded the annual 12 year Broken Arrow student breakfast for graduating Seniors. Memorials may be made to Clarehouse, 7617 S. Mingo Rd., Tulsa, OK 74133, Broken Arrow Historical Society, 400 S.
