Juanita Belk left for her Heavenly home on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the age of 85. She was born on October 21, 1927 in Cleveland, Ark., to Luther and Nellie Gooden-Brents. Juanita moved to Sapulpa as a teenager, and soon after met the love of her life, Travis Belk, who she married on her 17th birthday.
Juanita worked at St. John Tulsa, and sold Mary Kay products for many years. Her favorite job, however, was being "Mom" to Sandy, Bobby, and Roger, and "Grandma" to her beloved grandkids and great-grandkids.
Juanita is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Travis Belk, of Sapulpa, daughter Sandra Ledgerwood, of Sapulpa, two sons, Bobby Belk and his wife Ginger, of Sapulpa, Roger Belk and his wife Barbara, of Sapulpa; six grandchildren, Russell Phillips and his wife Libby, of Sapulpa, Nikki Biglow, of Bristow, Troy Belk and his wife Erin, of Sapulpa, Gretchen Creason, and her fiancé Sean Downes, of Sapulpa, Dana Harris and her husband Chad, of Tulsa, and Denise Belk of Sapulpa; 11 great-grandchildren, Hallie Barnes, Dustin Phillips and his wife Star, Bobby Creason and Alicia Maestas, Sara Creason, Trevor Belk, Braden Belk, Scott Belk, Mason Harris and his baby brother and baby sister who are due in December, and Jake and Camden Downes; three great-great grandchildren, Dustie Gayle, Kadence, and Evan; in-laws, Betty Brents, Donna and Robert Wilson, Glen and Judy Belk, Cleo Belk, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones that she left behind.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Nellie Brents; sisters, Wanda "Tootsie" Irby, Minnie Lou "Patsy" Brewer; brother Bobby Brents, mother- and father-in-law, George and Josie Belk, sister-in-law Barbara Jones, and brothers-in-law Pete Belk, Dee Jones, Gordon Irby, Joe Brewer, and her precious dog PeeWee.
Juanita adored her kids and grandkids, and kept extensive journals and records of her life and family history. She enjoyed fishing with "Mr. B," who she always claimed to "out-fish." She loved camping, traveling, playing cards and games, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, making quilts, and "yarn creations." She was cherished by all, and is already missed beyond words. We cannot wait until we can see her beautiful face again.
Visitation with Travis will be at The Gardens, Sapulpa from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013. Viewing will be at Smith Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2013. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Smith Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Hill Memorial Gardens.
