Funeral services for Gayle Ann Caddel Broughton, 75, of Palestine will be at 2 pm Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Herrington / Land of Memory Chapel with G.W. Niederhofer officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mrs. Broughton died in the loving arms of her family and friends on Sunday, January 22, 2012, in Tyler, Texas. She had been in ill-health for 2 years, but never gave up. She fought the good fight. Her family, friends, and caregivers were amazed by her strength and resilience.

She was born April 30, 1936, in Rosenberg, Texas to Hunter Caddel and Florence Geick Caddel. She graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1954. She married Gordon Lynn Broughton on December 27, 1955, and they had five children. She adored her children—she was an incredible mother. She loved animals and spoiled many dogs, cats, and assorted other animals. She also enjoyed cooking. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick-witted.

Mrs. Broughton is preceded in death by her parents and one son, Lee Caddel Broughton in 1980. She is survived by four children, Cheryl Sue Broughton and partner Angie Davis of Tennessee Colony, Holly Broughton Lively and husband John Russell Lively of Palestine, Nolan Scott Broughton and wife Laura Ann Broughton of McKinney, and Gordon Lynn Broughton, Jr. of Palestine; four grandchildren, Lynsey Gayle Lawrence Linderman and husband Russell Eugene Linderman, II, Hunter Lee Lawrence, Lee Thomas Broughton, and Ryan Richard Willoughby; one great-grandchild, Lanna Gayle Linderman and her second great-grandchild expected in July.

Her family will serve as pallbearers.

Condolence calls will be received from 6-8 pm Tuesday, January 24, 2011, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
