Mrs. McCorkle was born Sept. 19, 1893, in Illiopolis, the daughter of Archer Scott and Lillie B. Garrett Hunter. She married Charles Raymond McCorkle in 1918; he died in 1977. Mrs. McCorkle first taught school in Sangamon County at Richland School, then Woodside School in Springfield and later at Tipton School near Sherman. After her marriage, she taught for a number of years at Athens Grade School and later was principal of Cantrall Grade School.
She was a 55-year active member of Athens Christian Church, having been baptized there in 1924. She was a member and past regent of the Pierre Menard Chapter of the DAR, past president of the Athens Woman's Club and a member of the Cantrall Women's Club. She was a 60-year member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Athens. She was also a member of the Springfield Retired Teachers Association and a 44-year member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors: a daughter and two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one great-great-granddaughter; two great-great-grandsons.
Services: Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens, the Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, near Illiopolis
