Son of Joseph Lewis and Mary Ann (Crosby) Beebe. Married to Caroline Scott Walridge Beebe in 1854. They had three children.

Enlisted in Company G, 13th Indiana Infantry on June 19, 1861. Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on Oct. 12, 1862. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant on November 5, 1862. Promoted to Captain on December 12, 1862. Mustered out of Federal Service on March 12, 1865.
