The community was greatly shocked and saddened on Armistice Day by the accidental shooting of Roy Walton as he was returning home for dinner after working in the woods sawing pulpwood. He was mistaken for a deer by a hunter.

Roy was born in Presque Isle March 10, 1901. When but a young boy, he came to Thorndike with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Walton and for the past 15 years has lived in Unity.

In January 1932, he was united in marriage to Miss Abbie Starkey who survives him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Alan and Wallace; brother Marshall Walton; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Hemphill and Mrs. Laila Winship; several nieces and nephews.

A kind husband and loving father he will be greatly missed in the family circle as well as by a host of friends.

The funeral was held Sunday, November 14 at 1 o'clock at the home of his late father in Unity. Rev. H. C. Glidden officiated. There were many beautiful flowers showing the high esteem in which he was held and also carrying expressions of sympathy to the family. The bearers were Donald Woods, Clarence Bradeen, Kenneth Tozier and Benjamin Peabody. Interment was in the family plot in the Pond Cemetery, Unity.
