Most notable for his burial. The first grave that was put at the edge of Mary Lee's (Mrs. Robert E. Lee) rose garden and interred at the direction of Montgomery Meigs, Quartermaster of the Army, who was responsible for Civil War burials beginning at the Custis-Lee Mansion property of Mrs. Lee.First officer buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Died from disease at College General Hospital in Washington, DC. CAPT in the 31st Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
