Civil War Union soldier; he enlisted as a Private in Company C, 3rd Connecticut Infantry on April 25, 1861 and also served in Company I, 3rd Connecticut Infantry for three months in 1861. He was mustered in on May 14, 1861 and mustered out on August 12, 1861. He was a resident of Fairfield County when he enlisted, and lived in Danbury, Fairfield County after the war. In 1872, he resided at H. Triangle Street and was working as a hatter in Danbury. Formerly known as the "Hat Capital of the World" and official supplier of silk top hats to presidents, Danbury had 30 factories that manufactured five million hats each year.
