She was the wife of Conrad W.T. Hallgren, who died in 1964.
Born and raised in Katrineholm, Sweden, she worked for L.M. Ericsson in Orebro, Sweden, as a telephone assembler. As a youth in Sweden, she played guitar and was a member of the Salvation Army.
She immigrated to Quincy two weeks before her marriage in 1948. Together with her husband, they constructed, using classic Swedish designs, one of the last remaining summer cottage colonies in Chatham. She single-handedly operated "Pleasant Forest Shores" in the traditional Swedish manner until her death on Saturday.
In 1962, after a year-long cross-country trip with her family to locate a warmer residence, she moved to Dundee, Fla., where she also owned and operated a coin laundromat until 1973. During this time, she worked briefly for various companies, including a citrus candy maker and an orchid grower. She moved to Clearwater, Fla., in 1974 as a winter retiree, and maintained the cottage colony in the summer, which will be carried on by her son.
Devoted to her son, she enjoyed local band and church concerts, sewing and traveling in New England.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 310 Route 137, East Harwich, preceded by a visiting hour at 10 a.m. at the church.
Burial will follow in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouthport.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church; to St. Matthias Lutheran Church, 2751 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, FL 33759-1504; or the Salvation Army, 1625 Belcher Road N., Clearwater, FL 33755.
