Taylor Spink award for excellence in baseball writing in 2001.∼Longtime sportswriter for the Detroit News, Joe Falls died at 76, of a heart failure.He covered 50 World Series, 20 U.S. Opens and Masters Golf Tournaments, 25 Indy 500s, 20 Kentucky Derbys, and 15 Super Bowls. He was also a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.In 1960 the Times went under and he moved to the Detroit Free Press. Later he became a sports editor, and in '78, he joined the staff of The News. Falls was inducted into the writer's wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002.
