Thanks to Joanne for the following information:

Russell J. Glisan, 85, died Friday evening, January 17, 1997, at Rocky Mountain Care Center.

He was born March 13, 1911, at Canton, Miss., to Frederick E. and Mary Estelle (DeVilbiss) Glisan. He grew up there and worked with his father on the family farm. In 1936, he and a close friend, Harold White, left Missouri and drove to Townsend in a Model T Ford, arriving there on Easter Sunday. He was hired that morning on the church steps by his future father-in-law, Frank Wieferich, to work on his cattle ranch in the Canton Valley. He held various other jobs in the Helena and Townsend areas during this time.

On June 28, 1941, he married Frances Wieferich in Townsend. In August 1942, he enlisted in the Navy to serve his country during World War II. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor during his enlistment. He was honorably discharged in September 1945 and returned to Montana. At that time, he and Frances bought a small ranch near Manhattan. During the next 20 years, they raised three daughters and made many friends. In May 1965, the family moved to Helena Valley near the Masonic Home. Mr. Glisan worked at Carroll College in the Maintenance Department. When he retired from there, he worked at Hillbrook Nursing Home for a short time.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 21 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1502 Shirley Road. Burial was held at Resurrection Cemetery. The family wishes memorials be sent to the Butler-Manger Nursing Scholarship fund at Carroll College. Hagler-Anderson Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.
