He is best-known for voicing the cartoon character "Garfield the Cat" in a number of successive cartoon shows along with "Peter Venkman" in "The Real Ghostbusters" animated series based on the Ghostbusters movie franchise. Before "Garfield," he was a successful comedy writer for television, winning an Emmy in 1969 for the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour," and worked story editor for the "Mary Tyler Moore Show." He co-wrote with his wife the theme song for the "Bob Newhart Show," which he created with his partner David Davis. They also created the show "Rhoda," which featured Music as the unseen but hilarious "Carlton the Doorman."
