Donald Adrian Adema
Donald Adema, 82, was born in Grand Rapids, MI on February 4, 1927. He died in Oroville, CA on January 29, 2010. He was the third of five children of Simon and Grace Adema. He was raised in Iowa, Minnesota, and moved to So. California about age 10. His life and activities were centered in Bellflower, CA. He moved to Oroville in 1993. He entered the navy in January, 1945 for the duration. He was on his way to the Pacific when the war ended. He served in the Shore Patrol on the Marshall Islands. Part of his duties included guarding war prisoners and he guarded the plane used for the H bomb test. He served eighteen months.

He married Marjorie Jacoba Kuipers in 1949, had four children. She died in 1959. He married Audrey Ann Reitsma on February 3, 1961. The children were 4, 6, 8, and 10. He was a self employed business man for many years, He owned a mechanical shop, then an auto body shop for thirty years, sold real estate, and managed a mobile home park. He was a camper, fisherman, golfer, and boater. On a trip to Canada in their motor home, Little Pup, he and Audrey golfed at many courses along the way, including the one farthest north in Fairbanks. He owned 19 boats, He bought a Skipjack hull and built a cabin cruiser named the Audrey Ann. He enjoyed his wood shop. He did many crosswords every day. He served as a deacon and elder at the First Christian Reformed Church in Bellflower, CA. He was counselor for Cadets, the church scout group.
He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Audrey, children Dr. Don (Marcia), Mary (John) Daniel, Linda, Norman (Christianna). Grandchildren Marcus Adema, Natalie (Josh) Vaughn, Justin (Erika) Daniel, Cara Dawn (John) Hattrick, Monica, Andy Gilman. Bill (Letitia ) Lynam, three children. Luke (Melinda) Lynam, four children, Sage Gray, three children. Brother Duayne Adema. sisters Ruth Keizer Farabollini, Lois Klein. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Marjorie, granddaughter Marissa Adema, sister Jean Koops.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a good provider, very honest, and enjoyed a good laugh. He will be missed, but we rejoice that he is in heaven. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 on 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2350 Foothill Blvd, Oroville, Ca. Internment will be at Artesia Cemetery 11142 Artesia Blvd. Cerritos, CA. On February 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
