Entertainer and Writer. After completing school, she had jobs in a bakery, and as a typist. In 1946, she began working as an extra and two years later, she began receiving supporting roles at the Cologne Millowitsch Theatre. In 1957, she joined a Berlin cabaret, Tingel-Tangel. Her recording of "Ich will keine Schokolade" became a hit on German charts. She also reprised the song in the German movie "Marina" in 1960 and its success launched her career. She continued work at the Millowitsch Theatre to great success. Between 1955 and 1984, she appeared in over 48 films, and garnered directorial, producer, writer and cinematographer credits. Among these films were "Jakob und Rahel," "Frankenstein's Mother-in-Law, " and "Our Crazy Aunts." In 1977, she opened a folk theatre, Theater Im Vringsveedel on Severinstrabe. There she continued to find success with "Der Hausmann," and "Massage Salon Denz" among others. The theatre was only open from four months a year and despite being popular, it was economically challenged. When health problems started to surface, she closed the theatre in 1986. She remained a popular television guest and continued to record songs. She moved to Fiji in 1987 for health reasons. Not long after moving to southern France in 1991, she died of heart failure. In 1988, she received the Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. A memorial plaque was installed in front of her former theater at Severinstrasse.
