2006 Survey shows last name as Hard. Hardy looks to be correct.

George was a victim of the events surrounding the 1937 natural gas explosion at the New London School in Rusk County.

There is a G J Hardy listed on the cenotaph that memorializes the event. http://www.news-journal.com/news/content/news/

I chased down the death certificate and that shows him as George J Hordy, occupation Insurer. The death certificate states that Mr Hordy died of shock after going to the New London School Explosion site. I am not sure if he was there as a result of his profession as a insurer or to assist in search and rescue operations.

For anyone interested in the final resting places for those taken by the tragic event, I suggest you look at http://www.newlondonschool.org/Cemeteries.htm

I contacted the link directly above regarding him not being on their site and their response was as follows:

"Thank you for your observation. We do not include George Hardy because he was not killed by the explosion. We concentrate on the students, teachers, and visitors that were in the explosion itself."
