1850 census at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine
dwelling in the household of her parents.
WAITSBURG TIMES - 3 April 1925:
****************************
Mrs. Emma Gowen, age 81 years and 21 days, died Tuesday night in the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. F. McConnell.
She was the wife of Reverend L. W. Gowen.
She suffered a stroke of apoplexy on Thursday morning of last week and remained unconscious until the end.
Reverend and Mrs. Gowen made their home
in this city for the past 15 years, coming
here from Weiser in Idaho.
When a young woman, she made a profession of religion, and shortly after the close of the Civil War received an appointment as missionary to the freed men of the South.
Owing to her mother's failing health she felt obliged to decline this appointment, however, and instead remained at home to render service that was urgently needed there.
