Freeman resided at Nampa all his life.
He was employed in his father's blacksmith shop until he quit after an argument over wages. Then, he established the 'Freeman Gowen Machine & Welding Shop'. His blacksmith shop was in competition with his father's shop,
and they were not friends after this event.
Freeman's shop was very successful and he invested wisely in property in Nampa. In later years he turned his shop over to his employees, retired, then eventually sold the business.
He became well known for his ornamental iron work, which graces the entrances of
many homes and commercial buildings in Nampa and surrounding community buildings.
