William A. Denecke III, 45, died Friday at his home in Manhattan.

He was born April 23, 1936, to William A. and Virginia (Pickrell) Denecke II. He attended Bozeman schools and graduated from Montana State University in 1958.

He married Dorothy Shanholtzer October 5, 1963 in Bozeman.

He ranched with his father on the Green Ranch south of Three Forks until 1965, when he moved east of Manhattan to ranch until the time of his death.

Mr. Denecke was president of the Winter Fair Board for several years; president of the Montana Sheep Association; president of the Gallatin Wool Pool; past president and director of the National Columbia Sheep Association; a member of the Manhattan school board and a member of Manhattan Lodge No. 59 AF&AM.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Terri Jean and Kathy Lynn, both at home in Manhattan; a brother, Richard Denecke of Bozeman and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel in Bozeman.
