Cornelius J. "Neil" Garr, 100, Palmyra, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 1996, in Maple Lawn Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1895 in Monticello, Mo., the son of William and Elizabeth Hawkins Garr. He married Nellie B. Howard June 7, 1925. She survives of Hannibal.
Mr. Garr was employed by the Crown Shoe Factory in Palmyra. He had been employed by the Robey-Robinson Lumber Company and had farmed both on his own and for the George Wallace Farm in Monticello.
He was a member of the Park Chapel Baptist Church, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Father and Son Club.
Survivors include a son, ______ ____, Davenport, Iowa, a daughter ____ _ ____-____, Davenport; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Noah, Willy, Frank, George, Harry, Sam, and J. B. and by six sisters, Nancy Hawkins, Zella King, Lettie Gordon, Laura Fisher, Mary B. Howard and Elizabeth Fisher.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 6, in Park Chapel Baptist Church by Rev. C.E. Braxton. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church.
