Singer, Songwriter. He will be best remembered as one of the greatest blues singers of all-time. Born Robert Calvin Bland, he wrote and sang masterpieces such as "Turn On Your Love Light" and "Further On Up the Road" with which reached the top of the charts in 1957. In the early '60s, he recorded "I'll take care of you" and since then, produced a dozen successful hits one after the other. Among his hits are: "Call on Me", "That's the Way Love Is" both released in 1963, "Ain't Nothing You Can Do", "It's My Life, Baby", "Share Your Love with Me", sung by Aretha Franklin, "Further On Up the Road", now a classic of R & B music, and "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City." Bland was inducted into both the Blues Hall of Fame in 1981 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. He received a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1997. He died at age of eighty-three for complications arising as a result of a serious illness.
