Doing some research and found this sad story today in the “Kentucky Advocate” from November 3, 1871:

“Wm. Anderson, of Campbellsville, in this State, committed suicide last Friday morning, by shooting himself in the head with a shot-gun. He died instantly. He had been a soldier in the 13th Infantry, in the late war, and came home with a broken constitution and an incurable wound.”

Sad to think of this soldier, and many others, who surely suffered from PTSD after the war. The suicide rate among veterans today is also heartbreaking. If you need help, please get help.
