Eliza Mary Waller married Grigsby Appleton on 28 Sep 1820 in Abbeville Dist., South Carolina.

Eliza Mary Waller's grandfather, Rev. John Waller, was born on 21 Dec 1741 at Spotsylvania, VA and died at Abbeville Dist. SC on 04 Jul 1802. He is recognized as a patriot of the American Revolutionary War by the DAR (Ancestor #: A120055). Her grandmother, Elizabeth Ann (Curtis) Waller, was born in 1743 at Spotsylvania, VA, She died at Abbeville Dist., SC on 29 Jan 1804.

The will of Rev. John Waller was proven on 11 Dec 1801. He mentioned his son, Thomas Baxter Waller, and left him chattel.

Eliza (Waller) Appleton's parents were Thomas Baxter Waller (1776-1816) and Sarah (White) Waller (See DAR Ancestor #: A120055 record for confirmation). Thomas Baxter Waller was a son of the above mentioned Rev. John and Elizabeth Ann (Curtis) Waller. Thomas B. was born on 06 Mar 1776 in Virginia and his inferred death date according to his 1817 Abbeville, Dist., S.C. estate inventory was 1816. William White, the father of Sarah (White) Waller, was appointed the administrator of the estate of Thomas B. Waller on 04 Mar 1816. There is an error in the DAR records concerning the death date of Thomas Baxter Waller which claim he died on 12 Feb 1860. (See attached 1816 Abbeville, S.C. document). The estate of Thomas Baxter Waller was very large. His wife, Sarah, purchased many items for $3502.00 at a private sale on 25 Dec 1816. The estate sales of Thomas Baxter and Sarah (White) Waller consisted of 20 pages.

Sarah (White) Waller was born on 22 Jun 1785 in S.C. and died on 29 Nov 1820 Greenwood, SC. She married Thomas Baxter Waller in 1803.

Eliza Appleton's husband, Grigsby Appleton, is mentioned in the 11 Feb 1823 estate of her mother, Sarah (White) Waller. Grigsby received a fee of $39.09. William White was initially the administrator of his daughter's, Sarah (White) Waller, estate but died before it was finished. William Chiles took his place as Administrator. (See attached 23 Feb 1823 Abbeville, S.C. document).

The 1850 US Census of District 25, DeKalb Co., AL enumerated the household of 55 Y/O Grigsby E. Appleton, a mechanic and farmer born in S.C., and his 44 Y/O wife, Eliza Mary (Waller) Appleton, born in S.C. His land at the time was worth $1000.00. Also living in the household were their children: 19 Y/O William Appleton, a clerk born in S.C.; 16 Y/O Joseph Appleton, a farmer born in S.C., and 13 Y/O Haynes Appleton, born in S.C.

The 1860 US Census of Division 2, DeKalb Co., AL enumerated the household of the 55 Y/O widow, Eliza Mary (Waller) Appleton, a farmer whose estate is valued at $2500.00, Also living in her household was her 27 Y/O son, Joseph Appleton, a clerk. Interestingly, living in households on either side of their mother were: 35 Y/O Thomas Newton Appleton, a farmer, and his wife and children; and 33 Y/O John Bulow Appleton, a farmer and Baptist Minister, and his wife and children.
