Following is an edited obituary extract from the Star-News (Wilmington, NC), dated June 7, 2002:

Franklin Arndt, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 15, 1933, in Fremont, WI, son of the late Walter and Helena Schiesser Arndt.

Mr. Arndt was an active member of Kure Beach Memorial Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having retired with 20 years of service, 7 years of which he was assigned to Air Force One. He was also retired from the Mitre Corporation in McLean, VA.

Surviving is his wife, Judith Hallinan Arndt of the home; his children, Lauren O'Donnell and husband Michael of Sterling, VA, Michael Arndt and wife Tina of Clements, MD, Jeffery Arndt and wife Mary of Gainesville, VA, Christopher Gray of Charlotte, NC, and Eric Arndt of Wilmington, NC; his grandchildren, Eric, Derek, Kyle, Travis, Colin and Holly; and his former wife, Carolyn Arndt of Waldorf, MD.

Memorial services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, by Pastor Robert W. Matthias.


AN ASIDE: I served with then TSgt Franklin Arndt in the mid 1960s while assigned with the 89th Air Police Squadron at Andrews AFB, MD. He was a well respected and an outstanding NCO.
