SMSgt. James Martin Finn, Jr., USAF (Ret.), 75, died Thursday, November 10, 2011, at an Abilene medical center.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 31, 1936, James was the son of Mary Ann (Caster) and James M. Finn, Sr. He graduated from high school in Rock Island, Illinois in 1956, followed by two years of college. On September 20, 1958, Velma L. Borden and James were married in Hayward, California.

James retired from the U.S. Air Force after a 20-year military career. He also retired from his second career with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. Since 1973, James had been a resident of Abilene where he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

James is survived by his wife, Velma Finn of Abilene; three sons and their spouses, Kevin Finn and Melinda of Dallas, Brian Finn and Lisa of Burbank, CA, and Sean Finn and Paula of Charlotte, NC; and four grandchildren, Delaney Finn, Simone Finn, Bailey Finn and Sophie Finn. He is also survived by two brothers, John Finn of Charleston, SC and Edward Finn of North Hollywood, CA; a sister, Agnes Newenham and husband Harold of Rock Island, IL; and a brother-in-law, Kirby Borden and wife Sheryl of Twin Falls, Idaho.

Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, November 14, at Holy Family Catholic Church officiated by the Rev. Msgr. Fred Nawarskas. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
