Richard P. Cipro, 72, of Worcester, passed away Saturday, May 1st, 2010 in the University of Massachusetts Hospital with family at his side.

Richard was born in Worcester, August 8th, 1937, a son of Peter and Rose (Capurso) Cipro. He graduated from Classical High School, and attended Boston University. Richard entered the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Cuban Missile crisis and the onset of Vietnam. He returned home and has lived here all his life.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife and partner of 50 years, Rosemary T. (Finnegan) Cipro; his four children: Worcester Police Sergeant Richard P. Cipro, Jr. and his wife Colleen, Lori Ann Therrien and her husband David all of Worcester, Michael J. Cipro and his wife Colleen of Rutland, Jennifer Marie Standring and her husband James of Dudley; His beloved mother, Rose (Capurso) Cipro of Worcester; a brother, Dr. Robert P. Cipro of North Andover; eight grandchildren: Stephan, Michalla, Kaycee, Jack, Braiden, Ryan, Brady and Allan "AJ"; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Richard worked as a Postal Clerk more than 43 years for the U.S. Postal Service on east Central Street before retiring.

Richard was a member of St. Christopher's Church, and The National Association of Postal Workers Union. Richard was an avid sports fan and family man. He collected sports memorabilia including baseball cards and was an enthusiastic Yankee and Patriots Fan. Richard's family was his life's inspiration, their well being, and accomplishments were paramount to him.

Richard's funeral will be held Thursday, May 6th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a 9:30 am Mass in St. Christopher's Church, 950 West Boylston St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the Cipro family, Wednesday, May 5th from 4 pm to 8 pm in the funeral home.
