Richard C. "Boundsy" Bounds, 63, of Uxbridge, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

He leaves his wife, Cynthia A. (Munhall) Bounds; a son, Michael Bounds of Dudley; a daughter, Lisa M. St.Pierre and her husband Jamie of Worcester; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Torrey and her fiancé Matt Pearson and a stepson, Kevin Duquette, all of Uxbridge; 4 stepgrandchildren who called him "Papa Dick," Emma, Reagan and Hannah Torrey of Uxbridge and Karise-Marie Duquette of Webster; aunts and uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was born in Austin, TX, son of Wilbur Carl Bounds and Rose D. (Gabor) Bounds, and lived in Webster and Dudley for many years. He then lived in Northboro before moving to Uxbridge in 1993. He was a graduate of Bartlett High School in Webster in the class of 1964. During his youth, he accompanied his cousins Paul and Peter to outings so often that his Uncle Chet and Aunt Irene Starzec referred to him as their "third son."

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the M-14 Expert Badge.

Mr. Bounds was a bulk mail technician at the Worcester office of the United States Postal Service for 38 years, retiring on January 1, 2010 due to illness. He was a member of the American Postal Workers Union, Central Mass Area Local, serving as its treasurer for several years.

A sports enthusiast, he was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, the Oakland Raiders and the Boston Celtics. He was well known in the Webster area for his unusual horseshoe pitching style; he won numerous tournaments. These skills were learned in his youth at Webster playgrounds and at his family's Hayden Pond "shack" retreat in Dudley. He was a member of the Can-Am Horseshoe League, traveling to New Brunswick, Canada for weekend tournaments. He was awarded the Sportsmanship Award in 2006.

He was a golden member of the TSKK in Webster, where he served as a director of the executive board. He ran 13-card pitch tournaments with his pitch partner Michael Stelmach. With his wife Cindy, he organized many events at the TSKK, including the NFL Steak Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his cribbage partner "Buddy" Cooper.

He loved listening to the music of The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and Steve Earle. He owned a vast collection of movies, especially of The Three Stooges, and many books. He was an avid reader and a notorious practical joker.

His family would like to thank Dr. Dilipkumar Subbarao of the Fallon Clinic, Dr. Leon Josephs and the vascular department staff of Saint Vincent Hospital for their kind and expert treatment, and the Milford VNA for their follow-up care. The family acknowledges with gratitude the never-ending dedication of the following: the physicians at Boston University Amyloid Treatment and Research Program who diagnosed Richard with AL Amyloidosis and devised a treatment program for him; Dr. Laszlo Leb of the hematology-oncology department at Saint Vincent Hospital for his dedicated treatment of Richard and for sharing his wealth of knowledge of amyloidosis, as well as his compassion; Dr. Gary Noroian and the nephrology department of Saint Vincent Hospital; and the best team of all, the Hemodialysis Unit, and particularly Patricia Eklund, who made us feel like part of the family - we were blessed to know you.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 18, at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Old Worcester Road, Webster. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors. A celebration of his life will follow at the TSKK, 21 Harris St., Webster. There are no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to Boston University School of Medicine, Amyloid Research Fund, 72 East Concord Street, K503, Boston, MA 02118 or to VNA Care Network & Hospice Development Office, 5 Federal St., Danvers, MA 01923.
