Aram J. Hovagimian, 80, of Worcester, died Friday, October 8, 2010 at the UMass- Memorial Medical Center after an illness.

His wife of 57 years, Irene T. (Power) Hovagimian, died last year.

He leaves three children: Paula A. Grzelecki and her husband Wayne of Webster, Michael J. Hovagimian and his wife Jill of Hopkinton, and J. Donald Hovagimian and his wife Maura of Holden; a sister, Margaret L. Garafoli of Clinton; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His brother, Oscar Hovagimian died June 2. His sister, Sima Bellville also predeceased him.

Aram was born in Worcester, son of Mouseg and Victoria (Dokmadjian) Hovagimian, and lived in Worcester all his life.

Aram graduated from South High School. He attended Clark University which he left to enlist in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He was the transportation fleet manager in the Worcester area for the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked more than 25 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour.

Aram enjoyed golf and gardening. He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester are Sunday, October 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, October 11 at 11 a.m. in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 91 Salisbury St., Worcester 01609.
