Adam Paszeczko
SPRINGFIELD-- The funeral will be May 1, 2002 for Adam Paszeczko of Springfield, who died April 28 of age-related causes. He was 89.
Paszeczko was born [Easter Sunday] April 14, 1913, in Sobibor, Ukraine, to Mychajlo and Anastasia Slylmaszuk Paszeczko. He married Krystyna Kucymda in Nuremberg, Germany, on Sept. 20, 1946.
He served in the Russian Army and was stationed near the German border. Paszeczko was captured in 1941 and spent four years in various prisoner of war camps in Germany. He escaped from a Frankfurt camp in 1942 but was recaptured and held until the camp was liberated by the Americans in 1945. He suffered near starvation and beatings during his confinement.
Paszeczko came to Eugene in 1950 under the sponsorship of First Christian Church. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad from 1952 until 1959, when he began working for Weyerhaeuser. Paszeczko retired in 1977.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Portland and the Nativity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Springfield.
Survivors include his wife, a son, Petro of Eugene; a daughter, Katharina Johns of Springfield; two sisters of Ukraine; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
A Panachida will be held at 7:30 p.m. today (April 30, 2002) at the Nativity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Springfield. Wednesday's service will be at 11 a.m., also at the church. Officiating: Father Richard Janozicz and Father Deacon Luke Bell. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens in Eugene. Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Nativity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Springfield.
