TUSCALOOSA Sara S. Nichols, age 77, of Tuscaloosa, died Feb. 14, 2008, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Skyland Blvd. Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sam H. Summerville; mother, Gertrude Hamner Summerville Gray; brother, Sam H. Summerville, Jr.; and sister, Marilee Summerville.

Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Thomas V. Nichols of Tuscaloosa; her daughters, Jane Walker of Tuscaloosa and Judy Hayes (Steve) of Tuscaloosa; her sister, Doris Henry (Ron); her grandchildren, Ben Walker (Kylie), Katy Shelby (Brad), and Douglas Hayes; her great grandchildren, Jake Shelby and Noah Walker; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School class of 1947. Before devoting herself as a full-time wife, mother, and grandmother, she worked for Dr. Ruby Tyler and Children's Medical Center. She was a member of the Tuscaloosa Genealogical Society Night Group for many years and was a descendent of several Tuscaloosa pioneer families, including Hamner, Shirley, Chism, Sanders, and Robertson. She did extensive family research and published a book entitled, "Summerville Cousins." She had many fond memories of friends made and places visited while traveling and camping through the eastern U. S.

The family gives special thanks to Dr. George Miller, Heritage Nursing Home Station 1, Skyland Oaks Retirement Center, Hospice of West Alabama, and Marguerite Collins.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hayes, Ben Walker, Douglas Hayes, Brad Shelby, Ron Henry, Ronald Henry, David Henry, and Thomas Edmonds.

Honorary pallbearers are R. L. Zeigler Packing Co. office and sales staff, members of Skyland Blvd. Baptist Church, Heritage Residential Care Village, friends and neighbors of Plantation Drive, and camping friends.
