Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Navy during the War with Spain as a Seaman on board the "USS Nashville". He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His citation reads "Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Blume set an example of extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action." His Medal was issued on July 7, 1899. The Cienfuegos cable-cutting mission produced 52 Medal of Honor recipients, 26 of whom were Sailors and Marines from the "Nashville," and 26 who were Sailors and Marines from the "USS Marblehead." In 2003, two persons, Edward and Gisela Fedora, were charged with Unlawful Sale of a Medal of Honor. They sold medals awarded to United States Navy Seaman Robert Blume (Spanish-American War Recipient) and to United States Army First Sergeant George Washington Roosevelt (Civil War Recipient) to an FBI agent.
