Charles Burgan was born in St. Louis MO July 24, 1889 and entered into rest Fri Dec 17, 1943 at his farm near Robertsville, MO attaining the age of 63 years, 4 months, and 23 days.

Mr. Burgan spent his early life in St. Louis and was a veteran of the Spanish American War.

Mr. Burgan was educated in St. Louis and at the age of 21 enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept 25, 1900 and served three years in the infantry until he was honorably discharged on Sept 24, 1903. On Sept 27, 1905, he re-enlisted in the U.S. army and served in the cavalry until his honorable discharge on Feb 26, 1908. He received a commission as corporal on Oct 19, 1906. During his service with the U.S. Army, he spent four years in the Philippines.

He returned to St. Louis after serving his country and was married to Mrs. Minnie Gray of that city on May 11, 1918. Mrs. Burgan lived only a few years and after the death of his wife, Mr. Burgan moved to his farm near Robertsville in 1927. On Nov 2, 1937, he married Mrs. Katherine Brady in Normandy, MO.

The deceased was well known in this community and established a host of friends and acquaintances. His pleasant ways and accommodating disposition endeared him to his many friends by whom he will be remembered as a sincere friend and associate. His departure will be deeply missed in the home circle, in whose memory will be cherished the thoughts of a kind husband and father and beloved by all.

Surviving his departure is his bereaved wife Katherine; four step children, Mrs. Mattie Birdell of St. Louis, Mrs. Rachel Whitworth of St. Clair, Glen Brady of St. Louis, Miss Mary Brady of Robertsville, two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Dunford of St. Louis and Mrs. Anna Ward of St. Louis; two brothers, T. E. Burgan of Kirkwood and Nelson Burgan of South Paris, ME and other relatives and a host of good friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Union Protestant Church of Catawissa on Mon afternoon at 2 by Rev. Estes Perkins and interment was made in Calvey Cemetery.
