Geo W Copsey
The End of a Useful, Honorable and Energetic Man

Once again the Grim Reaper, in the perpetual sweep of his sickle, has caught one of our friends and severed the slender cord that binds man to earth, and while we wait for the ever returning sweep of the sickle that will just as surly snap the cord for us, we will miss the whole-souled, friendship of George W. Copsey, a schoolmate and playmate of bygone days; always a friend in the time of need and ever ready to help when help was needed; a man whose latch-string was always out for the tired wayfarer; one who never refused to accommodate a neighbor or do a good turn to the stranger.

Mr. Copsey was born and raised in Excelsior Valley, Lake Co, was well and favorably known all over the county, being an energetic saw mill and lumber man and a farmer. We sincerely believe that George has gone to wear a crown of eternal life as he had accepted the sacrifice made for him at Calvary Cross which alone gives man a claim to the promise of eternal salvation.

In accord with his wish, Rev C E Edgeman, of Elmherst, was sent for to officiate at the burial, but the message reached him too late, and in his stead a Christian Minister from Lakeport, whose name we failed to learn, responded to the invitation and arrived by boat just in time for the funeral services.

During the funeral service, a son, who would never behold his father in flesh, was born unto the deceased's wife. Let us hope they will meet where there is no parting.

George Washington Copsey born on Washington's birthday Feb. 22, 1866. He was called away March 1, 1908, aged 42 years, 8 days. His burial took place at Lower Lake cemetery, March 3. He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, six children, an aged mother and a host of relatives and friends all of whom have our heart felt sympathies.
