George Michael Butkay, 86, of Manhattan passed away March 28, 2006, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. He was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Hardin to Albert and Elizabeth (Rangitsch) Butkay. He grew up in the Sarpy Creek area near Billings and Hardin. He married M. Evalyn Curtis in 1940 in Hardin. They moved to Manhattan, where George became a beekeeper, the profession he maintained most of his working life.

He suffered a debilitative stroke in 1977 which ended his working years. He then lived with his children until 2005 when he moved to Century Village Assisted Living in Manhattan. He was a long-time member of the Manhattan Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his wife, M. Evalyn in 1981; daughter, Carol D. Skalicky in 1988; and four brothers, John, Jake, Charles, and Leo.

George is survived by his son, David G. Butkay of Manhattan; daughter, Bonnie L. Jensen of Evergreen, Colo.; grandchildren: Brian K. (Penny) Jensen of Shawnee, Okla.; Carl S. (Cheryl) Jensen of Indianapolis, Ind.; Stephanie L. Jensen of Seattle, Wash.; Tarrie D. Skalicky and Sara K. Skalicky, both of Portland, Ore.; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Paul (Jane) Butkay of Rollins; and sister, Kathryn Weinberg of Hardin. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 31, at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel, Bozeman. Interment will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Manhattan, followed by a luncheon reception at Century Village in Manhattan.
