Ernest C. Curtis, 71, of Hamilton, died Saturday, May 13, in Hamilton at the Valley View Estates.

He was born on January 9, 1924, in Manhattan, the son of the late Ernest and Lola Wray Curtis.

He was raised and educated in Montana, and on August 26, 1943, he married Ollie Vera Bridgewater in Bozeman. He served in the U. S. Navy from June 1943 until February 1946.

He returned to Bozeman and worked with the City of Bozeman in the Street and Sanitation Department until he was forced to retire in 1983 because of a stroke.

The couple moved to Hamilton in 1990. He was preceded in death by his wife on February 4, 1993.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Grain Millers International Union Local #23.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Amsden of Hamilton, and Peggy Jane Myers of Anitioch, Calif.; one son Ernest J. Curtis of Denver; two brothers, Lowell Curtis of Manhattan, and Neal Curtis of Belgrade; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his aunt, Mary Sales of Bozeman.

No formal service will be held. The family will hold a remembrance and reception time on Wednesday, May 16, from 1 until 5 p.m. at the home of Mary Lou Amsden. Private family placement of the urn will take place at a later date in Bozeman.

The family suggests memorials to the Valley View Estates Memorial Fund in Hamilton or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Daly-Leach Funeral Home.
