Lyle Applegarth, 85, of Lancaster, South Carolina quietly entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center. Born in Warrensburg, Missouri to the late Leo and Lilah Vaughn Applegarth, Lyle lived most of his adult life in the State of Alaska. Lyle follows his loving wife: Doris of 56 years, who passed away quietly on January 4, 2016. In addition to his parents and his wife, Lyle was predeceased by his one brother: Merrill Applegarth and his wife, Peg.

A veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he served in the U. S. Navy, Lyle also served his country faithfully as a civil servant for the U.S. Air Force and U. S. Army in Alaska for over 20 years. Lyle loved flying, airplanes, Harley Davidsons, and the State of Alaska. He was fiercely devoted to his wife, Doris, and two daughters. With a quiet and humble demeanor, Lyle ensured their well-being with selfless devotion. Stories of Lyle walking across the frozen landscape of Alaska with gas for his daughters snow machines when they had run out, late night repair work on broken appliances, fixing broken down cars or teaching his teenage daughters how to drive an International Harvester TRAVELALL, are often recounted as a testament to his devotion to family. His love and commitment to Doris spanned 56 years, and served as an example of a Godly marriage to many. They are reunited now in the presence of God for eternity.

Lyle’s daughters would like to thank everyone involved in his care over the past few months; their assistance made his final months comfortable.

Lyle and Doris are survived by two loving daughters: Nancy (Leigh) Winchell of Brussels, Belgium and Patricia Walker (Paul Mead)of Prosperity; 6 grandchildren: Bobby, Christopher (Lauren), Brandon, Justin, Ryan and Anna; and one great-granddaughter: Emma Winchell.
