Ted Montgomery Allen, son of Mary Lee Allen and the late Sgt. Frank Edward Allen, went to be with his Lord on July 19th, 2017. Ted was born on March 22, 1957.

Ted was raised in Abbeville, where he graduated from Abbeville High School in 1975. To follow his lifelong passion for air travel, Ted enlisted in the Army to receive training in air traffic control. After an Honorable Discharge, he was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration to work as an Air Traffic Controller. During his tenure with the FAA, Ted proudly continued his service to our country in the Air National Guard and was recognized numerous times for performing emergency evasive actions that prevented accidents and saved lives. After retiring from air traffic control, he was hired into his current position as instructor at the FAA training facility in Oklahoma City. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, Clemson football and helping anyone in need. He had a passion for the Boy Scouts and for several years was the Cub master for Pack 221 in Simpsonville.

In addition to his mother, Mary Smith Allen of Abbeville, SC, Ted is survived by his beloved ex-wife: Joan Watzin Allen of Greenville; three sons: Stephen Allen (Dorothy) of Wetumpka, AL, Jeff Allen, and Mark Allen, both of Greenville; his brother: Mike Allen of Abbeville; sister: Angela Stokes (Ken) of Augusta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon July 24, 2017 from 12:45 until 1:45 PM in the sanctuary at Main St. United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 2 PM on Monday, July 24th at Main Street UMC Abbeville, SC conducted by Rev. Leon Thompson. The burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Greenwood, SC with Military Honors. The family is at the home of his mother Mrs. Mary Allen, 324 Old Douglas Mill Road, Abbeville, SC. Memorials in memory of Ted may be made to Abbeville-McCormick Habitat for Humanity, 205 N. Main Street, McCormick, SC 29835 or The Boy Scouts of America, Blue Ridge Council, 1 Park Plaza, Greenville, SC 29607.
