Daniel Belton Amaker, Sr., 90, of 350 Beechwood Drive, Athens, GA peacefully passed away Thursday, March 6, 2003. A native of Orangeburg, SC, he was the son of the late Daniel Wesley Amaker and Elizabeth Garvin Amaker. He graduated from the University of South Carolina, with a degree in business and finance. He served in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, European Theater during World War II.

He was a long-time manager of Belk Department Store and retired in 1983. He was a Past President of Athens Rotary Club, Past President of Athens Merchant Council and he served on the Clarke County Draft Board during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church and a life member of the Salvation Army.

A devoted husband and father, he was married to the former Ms. Leo McCool of Westblockton, AL, who preceded him in death in 2000. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Daniel Belton Amaker, Jr. and Mary Beth DuBose Amaker of Columbia, SC and Leo McCool Amaker and Sonja Riley Amaker of Westfield, NJ; a brother, Wesley Amaker of Clover, SC; and four grandsons: Richard, Rhodes, Belton, and Daniel.

The family received friends on Saturday, March 8, at Bernstein Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Graveside Services were held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 9, at the Limestone United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Limestone Community of North, SC with the Rev. Larry Bates and the Rev. John Frye officiating.
