At the time of his death he was the Superintendent of the National Cemetery at Marietta, Georgia. He was a past Department Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic in the Department of Georgia.
He also served as superintendent of Mobile National Cemetery 1869-1870; superintendent of New Bern National Cemetery 1880-1881; and superintendent of Fort Scott National Cemetery 1881-1883.
