Born in France he came to NYC in Nov 1851. Around 1860 he moved to San Francisco He enlisted in the 9th regiment of the US Army Infantry in at San Jose Point in 1865 and was discharged as a Sargent at Camp Lincoln in Crescent City, Ca. By 1873, he rejoined the military stationed at Ft. Vancouver in Washington. He was a Corporal in the 21 Inf. Washington Territory Volunteers in 1875. On July 11, 1877, he was shot in the chest at the Battle of Clearwater fighting the Nez Perce. He survived and was subsequently stationed in San Diego and St. Louis Obispo. After his discharge, he become the Superintendent of the Presidio where he stayed in his death in 1918. Cause of death was listed as "Pneumonia".
He is buried with his wife, Lizzie Mary Morrow.
