Clarine lived in Olivehurst but died at Rideout Hospital in Marysville. She was a widow and never had children.
When she left home to make her way, she headed for Chicago. The night she arrived, the police had Dillinger's body on display. She stood in line with hundreds of others to view his remains.
Clarine worked with my husband at the Olivehurst Post Office for many years before her retirement.
She had a laugh you could hear down the street and around the corner. It was a very happy laugh.
Clarine had a multitude of friends from all walks of life. You always knew exactly where you stood with her. If she didn't like you, she flat didn't like you. If you were her friend, she would walk the last mile for you. She was married to Beriah B.(Pete) Griggs who preceded her in deathin 1970.
My kids were little when they first met her and for some reason, Dalton called her Clairol. She laughed her head off. From then on, all my kids called her Clairol.
She was a wonderful friend.
