Columbia, SC - Officer Stacy Lynn Case died Saturday, November 7, 2015. Born in Midland County, Michigan, she was the daughter of Ronald Gene Potts, Sr. and Josephine Case Potts.

After graduating from Meridian High School in Sanford, MI, where she played on the softball team, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Limestone College. She was a four year veteran of the Columbia Police Department, hired by the City of Columbia in September 2011. Her last assignment was with the North Region’s A Squad. She was formerly assigned to East Region, served as community officer in the Community Services Division, worked as a crime prevention officer and was a RISK Program team member, a program designed to help at-risk youth. In addition to her law enforcement service, she was a member of the U. S. Army from 1996 to 2011, where she served in the Army’s Military Police Corps. During her military service, Officer Case received several awards including the Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Award, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation and a Good Conduct Award. In November 2014, she enrolled in Emergency Management studies at Columbia College. Officer Case had a tremendous heart for children and animals. Her two dogs, Able and Sophie, who were treated like her own children, served as therapy dogs. She enjoyed watching military movies and being with family, friends, and her law enforcement team. She was a member of Living Word Assembly in Lexington.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by three brothers, Joseph Case, Jason Case and Ronald Gene Potts, Jr. and an extended family.

A funeral service for Officer Stacy Lynn Case, 37, will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the Township Auditorium, 1703 Taylor Street, with burial in Midland, Michigan, at a later date. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to PNC, c/o Officer Stacy Case Memorial Fund, 701 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or dropped off at any PNC bank branch.

NOTE: Columbia Office Stacy L. Case, 37, was responding to a call for service and was involved in a car crash in Columbia at the intersection of College and Park Street at about 10:30 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2015. She was a 4 year veteran of the Columbia Police Department.
