Stray AKA Straybo was an interesting little fellow with a unknown background. He lived in a neighborhood where I had a friend. She would feed him, but she couldn't get near him because he was frightened. Another friend that we like to call "Mother Nature", because she is so kind to people and animals, was able to eventually get the little fellow to come to her for his pets and treats. Over time he became a friendly dog with a happy disposition.

My friend was leasing a house and the owners were returning so she had to move. I had recently purchased a new home so I invited her to live with me until she found a house to buy or rent and to bring Stray along also.

In a short time she found a house but the landlord did not allow animals. I had become attached to him and he got along with my cats, Benson (1992-2004) and Eleanor (1993 -2008) and Lincoln (1990-2008), and when Maggie (1993-2008), the dog, joined the furry friends. He accepted her with open paws.

He liked to sit and sleep in one of my favorite chairs with me.

He liked the outdoors so while I was at work he would guard the yard like a good watch dog. One day upon arriving home it was discovered that he was not here, the search began. He was located a couple of blocks away with a pack of dogs doing what dogs do. Driving up he recognized the car and hopped in and was ready to go home. We worked on the fence that evening and thought we had repaired so he couldn't get out. We were wrong. Same thing the next day. We really worked on the fence after that and there was no more escaping.

He was frightened of people with a baseball cap and sunglasses be it male or female and would bark and growl at them. All of my friend became aware of that fact and would remove them before coming in the house. Eventually we think we know why he didn't like caps and glasses. When I got home one day he was limping so we took a trip to the vet. He took an x-ray to check the leg and determined it was just a sprain, but the x-ray revealed a 22 bullet in his chest. The vet stated that it posed no danger as it had healed around the area and did not recommend surgery to remove it. At that time we surmised that he had been shot by a person wearing a cap and sunglasses.

He really liked Church's Chicken, because if I would stop to get some on the way home, he became excited and wanted some, of course, he got his way. No other carry out food would get the same reaction.

There was one spot in the yard that was his favorite and when he went to the Rainbow Bridge I planted a bush there in his memory.

For one of God's little creatures with a most likely tough beginning he ended his life as a happy boy.

He is missed.
