Born in Mount Falvey, Scartaglen, County Kerry. Immigrated to America where he joined the U.S. Army 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.

Killed in action in North Korea near Hill 868 during the Battle of "Bloody Ridge" He received the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
