Vernon B. Armer, 76, of Dover, died Friday, July 1, 2011, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

He was born July 5, 1934, at Kingston, Arkansas, to James Franklin and Lena Mae Deatherage Armer.

He was a carpenter and a former security guard for Arkansas Nuclear One, was a United States Army veteran, a former Boy Scout Troop leader in California, a member of the National Rifle Association and the Gold Prospector's Association of America, and he was a Christian. He loved the outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, watching nature, spending time at the Pacific Ocean, or just driving in the rain. He also loved visiting with his friends at Bill James' station.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dennis, Raymond and Arnold Armer, and two sisters, Annis Cain and Dorpha Hawthorne.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Martha Armer; two sons and daughters-in-law, Nathan and Robin Armer of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Vaughn and Candy Armer of Springdale; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Rob Bewley of Burlington, Kansas; a brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Katie Armer of Rosebud, Texas; two sisters, Bonnie Fansler of Greenfield, California, and Hedi Hummel of Tucson, Arizona; and two grandchildren, Faith and Seth Armer.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Paul Northcut. Burial will be in St. Joe Cemetery, north of Atkins, by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
